Steps, Cariks… In Reality, In Tales… / Adımlar, Çarıklar – Gerçekte, Masalda…

The main elements that define the mystical magic of the Orient are colors, textures and symbols. The legendary alphabet, which has survived for centuries in Thosand and One Nights, include the same colors, textures and symbols. The pointed curved toe of “Anatolian Çarik” with their special textures and prints are one of the ethnic symbols of this alphabet. The Hitite shoe “Carik” with its eye catching pointed curved toe, is in a lofty movement symbolizing power, wealth and authority of the noble sultans. The completion of this movement was interpreted as reaching the spiral form in design process. Spiral in history has been practised as the sign of immortality.

The installation Suhandan Özay Demirkan indicates that shoe is not just a temporary , transient fashion Project but rather a design object which achieves a challenging and autonomous discourse.Each shoe, as a piece of sculpture confronting what is popular, aims to inspire fantasy through dream and reality; past and future; tradition and modernity; local and universal…

The nature of fiber art evokes life. With fiber games, the artist chose to create an imaginery garden beyond time and season, in which one can dream, feel and recall memories in different ways.
